In the spirit of our two new shades of Lip Crayons — Peony Kiss and Marsala Kiss — we wanted a playlist that captured their essence and moods. Peony Kiss is a little bit flirty. Marsala Kiss feels a little mysterious. This playlist— curated by in-house mixmaster, Natalie Marte — is a lot of both.
“Inside And Out” by Feist. Album = Let It Die
“Baby I can’t figure it out, your kisses taste honey.” Bee Gee’s said it first, but now we’re loving Leslie Feist’s fresh spin on the track. What it lacks in funk, it makes up for in heart.
“ILYSB” by Lany. Album = Make Out
Maybe it’s #FOMO or maybe it’s #YOLO, but we’re obsessed with acronyms. ILYSB, which means “I Love You So Bad,” isn’t just appropriately named, it’s the perfect mood maker for our playlist. We’ve got the Live from LA version on repeat because in Los Angeles, we slow dance every summer night.
“Tired of Talking” by LEÓN. Album = Treasure
This soulful Stockholm native convinces us that sometimes (or all the time) kissing is better than talking. #LetsBeHonest
“WILD” by Troye Sivan. Album = Blue Neighbourhood
”Kissing up on fences, and up on walls” is driving this Australian alt-pop star wild. Hey, it’s like we always say, “You do you.”
“Knife Edge” by Matt Corby. Album = Telluric
We won’t lie, Corby’s sultry, raspy voice can croon a grocery list and we’ll put it in our makeout mix. Catch his debut album, soon to be released in March. And in true “mysterious, unavailable artist” form, he spent two years in a cottage on the coast of Australia to write, record and produce the entire project himself. #swoon
“Like an Animal” by RÜFÜS DU SOL. Album = Bloom
With lyrics like, “How long have I been on the hunt for you?” this is definitely a song that lets your lip crayon do the talking. We love the not-so-subtle moodiness with just enough poppy beats to make you feel a sense of urgency. Head’s up, RÜFÜS is “coming home for you.”
“Red Lipstick” by Low Cut High Tops. Album = Eh, Whatever
Be forewarned, press play and you won’t get this track out of your head. (Maybe that’s what inspired the lyrics, ”You’re in my head, in my head, kissing on your lips.”) Only thing more addictive than this song is the video.
“Fashion” by The Royal Concept. Album = Smile
Call it your ode to the perfect outfit — or in this case, the perfect pink lip — this song is all about not abandoning what you love, just because it’s a little on the wild side. Case in point: ”Cause I love the way you wear on me, and your fashion is so wild and free.” We think The Royal Concept has a career in greeting cards if this music thing doesn’t pan out…. “So, baby, put your dope-ass-crazy fashion on me.” Yes, please.
