You asked. Honest answers!
Water on the west coast is particularly hard. Meaning it is full of mineral deposits that alter hair color, change hair texture, and cause a brittle, dry feeling to the ends. Of course in the winter we’ve been dealing with rain and wind, so keeping good hair throughout can be challenging!
A weekly demineralized can do wonders to remove any mineral deposits from the water on your hair. Malibu has a great hard water shampoo and conditioner set.
It’s all about maintaining your hair in harsh circumstances.
For example, if you’re wearing a wavy or curly look you can split your hair down the middle, then twist both side away from the face and roll up into a bun. Pin into place with French pins then pop a beanie over your hair on your way to work. When you get to the office, take the beanie off, remove your pins and shake!
I also suggest cordless styling tools. Sarah Potempa has a great cordless iron that easily fits in your purse for mid day touch ups.
My favorite go-to style for wet winter day
Embrace the wetness and opt for a sleek look that day. Put in some hair oil and let your strands soak up the moisture for a combo oil treatment/sleek low bun. A brand like Marula Oil is great for treating the scalp and dry strands and will give a super-chic style without looking greasy.
The biggest hair issues when it’s dry and freezing.
Dry, dull-looking strands!
Moisturizing products are key! I love Macadamia Oil Professional Healing Oil as a daily treatment and weekly deep conditioning treatments with the Kevin Murphy Young Again Masque.
Styling tricks to combat weather
With this weather, maintaining a style is nearly impossible. I love braids for this because your hair stays intact, out of your face, and a little rain or wind won’t mess it up.
Try boxer braids to keep your hair under control or wearing a chic beanie and braiding the ends of your hair. A quick Pinterest search for braids proves the options are endless.
My favorite go-to style for cold, windy day.
Tuck your hair into your collar! It looks so intentional and keeps hair under control. Wear a scarf or turtleneck and just don’t pull your hair though
