Summer-proofing your hair from surf, sun, the elements, etc., is just as important as your style. Check out these pro tips from NY-based celebrity hairstylist Jennifer Yepez.
USE YOUR TEXTURE. In the winter, we style more and work more on trends, regardless of our hair type. In summer, it’s best to work with your natural textures to both save time and keep locks healthy in the heat and sun.
DEFEND AGAINST HEAT. Everyone should always wear a heat defense before leaving the house — not just when using styling tools.
CONDITION LIKE A BOSS. Use conditioner and leave-in conditioner because we can a lot more exposure to heat and UV rays, which can damage hair. It also protects from frizz (thank you, summer humidity). If you have curly hair, use a thicker conditioner. Straighter hair, go light.
TIE IT UP. Wear a braid, twist or ponytail so you don’t have to blow dry locks every day. The less extra heat you can expose tresses to, the better.
USE SURF + SAND. After a day at the beach, don’t worry about shampooing, conditioning and blowdrying before heading out at night. Just rinse your hair, spritz with sea salt spray and air dry. It’s sexy, plus easier on your locks.
