If we caught anything from recent fashion runway reports, it’s that less is more and more is … also more. Huh? Yeah, that’s right. Anything goes. Whether you’re working a fresh take on natural palettes or a rad twist on vibrant color, the look is all about you, not the makeup. While key trends emerged, the takeaway is that you take home the trend and make it your own. Many of this season’s looks, while modern and aspirational, have a certain DIY appeal. Here are a few we’re test-driving already:
Nouveau Red Lip Glam lips aren’t for just Black Ties anymore. This season’s yummiest takes on the time-defying red pout is the finish. Think velvets, lacquers and vinyls, whether the shade is deep and rich, bright and inspiring, or stained and just-bitten. Pair with natural or lightly smoked shadows, stained or contoured cheeks and dewy skin.
The Pink Kiss There’s nothing girly about the high-wattage fuschia lips that rocked the catwalk. Marchesa paired theirs with pink-stained lids and cheeks, white liner and ultra-dewy radiance. But who’s to say you can’t change things up? Slicked-back hair with a messy chignon made their pout pop, without taking the look too seriously.
Natural Flushes We’re obsessed with this feminine, understated-sexy look seen from a bevy of designers in Paris, New York, London and Milan. Hair ranged from damp-to-dry and tied-back to messy chic (hey, both work for us). Bold lashes and brows with subtly contoured cheeks and sheened lips add a subtle edge.
Sun Goddess Spring fever takes on an earthy, beach-to-desert vibe with pink and peach hues on lips, lids and cheeks punctuated with highlighters and white eyeliners. Amp up the look with cool gray or smoky brown shadows in lieu of the monochromatic pinks and peaches. We like to top ours with Magic Balm for the wet lid look.
Ocean Gazing Bright sea greens and vivid marine blues gave eyes a touch of playful drama. Whether you apply yours with pencils, shadows or liner pens, the shape and intensity is entirely your call. Try bold, dramatic sweeps of color across the lids or whimsical, eye-opening accents along the lash lines.
Wet Metallics Before you swipe left, hear us out. Everyday shades come alive — and take on a chic, industrial sheen — when topped with a coating of balm, salve or even lip gloss in a pinch. If you’ve got more time, use shimmery shadows and wet your brush before applying color for a sleek twist on the trend.
